Water as a Cleansing Agent

Summary: From time immemorial, water has been a part of our everyday lives. We bathe in or with it, drink it, use it in cooking, wash with it among a plethora of uses. The human body according to research is 70% water and without water, a man can die after days of dehydration.

Water is known as a lot of things to different people. However, most do not know the benefits water gives to the preservation and improvement of life.
In weight management, water is a veritable ally. When you wake up in the morning either as a weight watcher or just the bloke down the block, getting some warm water into your body will quicken your metabolism and keep your body temperature increased so that your body will go to work dealing with constipation and knocking off pain.

In massage therapy, a massage patient is advised to take some warm water after a massage. This is to wash away all trace of toxins released into the blood through the release of stiff muscles and the effective application of massage therapy. After this action, a patient may feel sleepy and then wake up feeling refreshed.

Water is also mixed with some fruits to aid in digestion, weight loss and as leisure drinks.

To shed weight, warm water is mixed with freshly-pressed lemon juice. Sipping this concoction without allowing it touch the enamel of your teeth (it corrodes teeth enamel) will help you manage your weight if used over time. It also helps you deal with high blood sugar and insulin resistance as lemon contains antioxidants that perform these functions coupled with the cleansing properties of water.

Adding the same mixture also helps with constipation as the mixture will make your stool softer and more easily passed out.

Another food that mixes well with water to aid in weight loss is Honey. Honey has been known and heralded as an effective home remedy for weight loss. Honey mobilized the excess fat in the body, causing them to be used up as energy by the body. It is also advisable to mix honey in warn instead of hot or cold water.

However you want to use it and in whatever capacity, water is a necessary component of our everyday survival. So, eat well, incorporate exercises into your daily routines and take lots of water in whatever beneficial form and you can be sure that you will keep the Doctor away.

Dr Nagi Safa is a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeon (Weight-Loss Surgeon) at the Advanced BMI in Lebanon and at the Sacred Heart Hospital of Montreal, and holds an academic appointment at the University of Montreal. Furthermore, he is involved in the training of residents and surgical fellows on how to perform advanced laparoscopic obesity surgery. In 2010, he launched the Advanced Bariatric and Metabolic Institute (Advanced BMI) in Lebanon, and has been helping hundreds of patients from all over the Middle-East through his expertise in obesity surgery. Education: Dr Safa completed his residency training at the University of Montreal General Surgery Program. He then performed a fellowship in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and Minimal Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery), at the Sacred Heart Hospital of Montreal, which is the largest Weight Loss Surgery center in the Montreal area, and one of the busiest in Canada. Experience: During his training, and throughout his practice, Dr Safa performed more than one thousand laparoscopic procedures, including Roux en Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, gastric plication and many other abdominal surgery procedures. He has a particular interest in LaparoscopicRevisional Surgery including banding, bypass and sleeve. With a keen interest in the advancement of obesity surgery and newer minimally invasive surgical techniques, Dr Safa gained experience in the single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), and offers Single Incision gastric banding and Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery. Research: His current research interests include clinical outcomes from various bariatric surgery procedures and investigations on the impact of bariatric surgery on Type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome X. Memberships: Dr Safa holds professional memberships with the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons, Canadian Association of General Surgeons, Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Association for Surgical Oncology, Quebec Medical Association, Trauma Association of Canada, Association Quebecoise de Chirurgie, International College of Surgeon, and the College des Medecins du Quebec.
